Charlie Channel ("Bedtime Buddy")Voice artist Charlie Channel and writer/director Rachel Ross, both parents, came up with the Bedtime Buddy concept one night after Charlie had read a bedtime story to Rachel’s youngest son, Mateo.  Noticing the 5 year-old was still fidgety, despite lying in bed, Charlie began improvising breathing and muscle relaxation exercises using enchanting, child-friendly images to engage Mateo, who quickly joined in and began to relax. Dimming the lights, Charlie improvised a few stories and within a short time, his warm, comforting voice had soothed Mateo to sleep.

Rachel and Charlie wanted to share their special formula for easing the young child’s transition to sleep with other parents and caregivers. Weaving Charlie’s resonant, reassuring voice together with guided-imagery, body relaxation from head to toe, child-directed fantasy, and slumber-friendly literature, they created a unique bedtime adventure.

Their approach is based on the premise that when the young listener is the central figure in a self-directed story, and has a controlling influence in putting a favorite figure to sleep as the story unfolds, the child readily accepts sleep himself, because it is by choice--a concept supported by published research on childhood sleeplessness.
